Since 1984…
A house is like an instrument. Something beautiful. Something useful. Something that can be filled with music and meaning. Something that can hold a secret and unlock worlds and feed people in their souls. A place to share songs and stories. A place that feels like Home.

We’ve been in Austin since 1984, when Daddy got out of the Air Force. His dad was a carpenter, and his dad’s dad before him. I guess building good things is in the blood. Two sons, four sons-in-laws, six grandsons and a couple adopted brothers now, and we’re still building.
We love what we do,
and who we get to do it with.
Maybe sometime we’ll get to build something beautiful with you…?
We Believe…
We believe homes can be beautiful and durable.
We believe when you cut a corner you create two more.
We believe leaving a mess is okay… if you’re a baby. We leave our job sites spic and span and sparkling.
We believe safety is important, but not the most important.
We believe in staying until the work is done. We won’t leave to start another job.
That’s just… lame.
We believe beauty endures, and that makes us wonder, and wondering is good.
We believe in short contracts and lifelong relationships.
No one builds a house anymore…
“Son, you know the problem with contractors these days?”
Uncle Roy always told you what he was thinking, whether you wanted to know or not.
“They only do one thing.”
He was wearing a sad grin.
“Yep. No one builds a house anymore.”
He was known for that smile.
“No one builds a house, they only build a piece of a house. And the next guy builds another piece…”
A lot of us think he was a little crazy.
“Foundation guys do a piece, framing guys do a piece, finish guys do a piece…”
He was always softly ranting about something.
“…no continuity, no accountability, no pride in the finished product.
It’s a real shame.”
And using words like continuity.
“What I’m saying is, whatever you do, take pride in your work. Do a thing from start to finish. Be proud to sign your name…”
“…remember son, a name means a lot.”
Why “Bard?”
“Why ‘Bard’?”
“Well, you probably know a ‘bard’ has the profession of using songs to tell stories, and we believe a home should tell a story in a musical kind of way.
A story tells you about the people living in it, just like a home should.
Music will put you in a mood, take you on a journey and tell you secrets you thought you already knew.
Put them together and people will ask you for your recipe.
At the end of the day, we’re just stacking sticks and bricks.
But we get to attempt beauty, to build something beautiful.
And we get pretty excited about that.
So, that’s why ‘Bard.’ Serious but not too serious.
After all, everything we do is just a story and a song in the end.
